Default matching ring size with diamond?

hello, i have 5.5 finger size and am wondering whether 2.5 or 2.75 CT round diamond for an engagement ring would look ridiculous. I love sparkly large diamonds, but at the same time I don't want it to look vulgar. My partner doesn't see any problem but then at the end of the day I will be the one wearing it.....(not that I'm complaining.)

WOW that's huge for such a small finger! I'd go with 1 - 1.5 CT. And I'd get it inset instead of one that sticks up off the finger. Just my opinion. But seriously, you should get what you want. If you always dreamed of 2.5 CT, then go for it! You only get one engagement ring...hopefully.

I rarely wear my engagement ring because it sticks up off my finger and it's only .5 CT. It gets caught on everything. It's a beautiful ring but it's just not pratical. I wear my wedding band all the time though. It's comfy and pretty.

My finger is a size six and my two carat round looks like a doorknob on my finger! It's great if that's the look you're going for. I love major bling!

Hey -

No - they don't look too vulgar, they genrally look stunning!

All I would say is this: do not sacrifice quality for size. I opted for a smaller diamond so that I got an (almost) flawless stone and it really shows. It's a 0.50 marquise cut, D colour, VVS1 with ideal symmetry, no fluorescence and brillaint cut. Though it's not a huge rock, it looks a good size on my finger because it's a logner stone. I adore it.

However, I just didn't want a large rock. If I had, I would have waited a while longer - so if it's what you want, and you have the money - go for it girl! It's a special ring and you should get what you want!

But seriosuly, if possible, try to stick to or above F colour, VVS2 clarity and a good cut for the stone - inclusions will be more obvious the larger the stone. Also check out the dimensions. Mine is less than 1mm shorter in length than a 0.60 diamond of the same quality - but it was £800 less than that rock...and I doubt it's that obvious.

But so long as YOU are happy, that's all that matters. Anyone who bitches - tell them to sling their hook hehe.

Try bluenile.com and adiamor.com which let you search diamonds...helps get a price idea and look idea. Also, the link below is great for getting a visual of diamond sizes. These sites also give good 'diamond lessons' so you won't get ripped off.

i can personally vouch for bluenile - that's where my FH got my ring. It is valued more than it cost too!

Congrats!

Diamonds always look smaller in real life, so I wouldnt think it would look vulgar. If you can afford it, go for it

I think people who say big diamonds look tacky are jealous! Personally, I think they are gorgeous. Granted if you have tiny, bony fingers, any ring might be a bit overpowering! I am size 6 and wear a 1.5 and I think it looks great. I think you should wear what YOU like and what YOU think looks best on you. I am sure you could easily get away with a larger ring.
