Default Tips for Cleaning and Polishing Jewelry

If you have the privilege of owning Tiffany Jewelry, than it is very important that you make sure it is cleaned on a regular basis. When it comes to my Jewelry I always want it to look like something that was just purchased, and to still have that shine to it. When it comes to Tiffany silver jewelry or any silver jewelry you should know that it does tend to tarnish easily and quickly. When you first purchase your jewelry they will recommend that you bring it back to them to be cleaned, but this is really not necessary.
You will need a non abrasive silver polish or a silver cleaning cloth to keep your Tiffany jewelry clean. The silver cleaning cloth usually has ingredients in it which helps to fight against tarnishing. Using a non abrasive polish will help you to avoid getting scratches on your jewelry. Also make sure that when you are not wearing your jewelry you place it back in the box you can also protect it from getting additional scratches on it, and avoid getting tarnished quicker. The best box to use for storage is to put it in the box you received when your purchase the jewelry or when it was given to you. If the box becomes damaged than you can purchase small jewelry boxes with the cushions inside at your local Tiffany store for a reasonable price. You can also use a liquid silver dip which I have found also works very well to keep your jewelry shinning. You just dip your jewelry in the solution and then wipe dry.

If your jewelry has a special gemstone on it which many pieces of Tiffany jewelry does have, than you will need to make sure that no household chemicals get on the gemstone. This can cause damage to it. If you have gemstones than you should avoid using the silver dip that is mentioned above since this will dull the finish on your gemstone. To clean your jewelry if it has gemstones you can use the silver paste, and put a small amount one a children’s toothbrush. Than very carefully clean small areas of the jewelry until all the tarnish is removed. Make sure that you don’t get any of the paste on the gemstone. Once you have finished rubbing in the past and the tarnish looks to be gone, than you can rinse your jewelry in warm water and a pat it dry. After you have cleaned it you can then use the polishing cloth to give it that final shine. Don’t use the cloth on the gemstones, but work around them.
If you have diamonds on your jewelry than you can also use the small toothbrush with a light mild soap and a half cup of warm water. Then you can wipe down your jewelry and rinse. The liquid dip will also work well for leaning any Tiffany Jewelry with diamonds. This may seem like a lot of work to just clean your jewelry but if you want to preserve it and really make it last long than you will have to put in a little work.

1. Home ultrasonic cleaners are best used for karat gold jewelry without gemstones. The ultrasonic may also be suitable for some diamond-set jewelry.
2. Storing your jewelry in plastic bags with an interlocking seal when not in use slows the tarnishing process. Never store Pearls in plastic bags.
3. A mild soap and water solution used with a soft brush is effective for many home jewelry care needs. Even the mild chemicals of commercial jewelry cleaning products may damage certain gems.
4. If you have diamonds on your jewelry than you can also use the small toothbrush with a light mild soap and a half cup of warm water.

Be careful that you may lose it into the tiny holes of your drains, if you are washing the jewelry in the bathroom. Close the faucet before you lose it to the sinks! Softer toothbrushes and toothpastes do come handy in cleaning gemstones. You can use cold water to rinse the jewelry and use soft toothbrushes to remove both the dust particles and the toothpaste from the tiny gaps between the lines and designs. We should be so aware on taking care on jewelry since it is too valuable
