Default what does 375 symbol means in a jewelry? is it gold or silver or nothing?

I was given a very beautiful ring yesterday by a friend. It was stunning specially the diamond bits, I'm not sure if it's diamond or cubic zircunium though. Does anyone knows what 375 means?

9 Carat gold.

375 parts per thousand (a bit over a third, by weight, of gold).

Pure gold would be expressed as 1000

9ct - 375 - means it is 375 parts gold to other alloys
14ct - 585 parts gold to alloys
18ct - 750 - higher % of gold, less alloys
22ct - 916 - more gold less alloy
